Halloween Question...Feedback Welcome

It's the end of October...Halloween is upon us, and I STILL do not have a costume.  See, I'm a reluctant participant in Halloween activities...my heart is just not in it.  Why?  I have no idea...God knows I loved it as a child. That excitement of putting a costume together weeks in advance...I truly loved it.  Even through university I was into it.  My costumes were never elaborate, but at least I was dressed up like everyone else.  But somewhere along the way I've lost my Halloween mojo.  I WOULD even consider going downstairs and turning off the lights during trick-or-treating, but my friends with kids (and there are lots of them) would never let me away with it.

So...here I am...in the same pickle I get myself into every year.  I want to go to all the Halloween parties.  I even made plans with friends weeks ago to try and get myself in the spirit...in the game...but no, I am not ready for the party.  Perhaps if I had some of Cinderella's mice to get me out of a jam...

The question is...on a scale of 1 to 10...how LAME would it be if I went to the party, but did not dress up in a costume?  I really want to know.

In music news, I went to Halifax this past weekend to scope out gig venues and meet some important people.  I met one fabulous musician, Paul Lamb, who was playing at The Lower Deck on Friday evening.  His show was incredible, and he pointed me in the direction of a few good people and suitable establishments in the area.  I had the best intentions for the remainder of the weekend, but then I got visiting with friends and family I hadn't seen in many years and that was the end of that.  I saw my nieces, Grace and Rose, for the first time in six years (I've been away for a long time) and met some kids of old friends that I had either never met or had not seen since they were babies.  What a great weekend!

Turns out I have some fans in Halifax.  I delivered a number of impromptu performances for my new little buddies, and I'm happy to report that I was warmly received by all.  Paige is definitely my number one fan, and I believe I may just have to take her on tour with me for moral support.  She even knows all the words!  Yup...it felt good to be around the kids.

So...it's back to Halifax I go in a few weeks.  I have to do all the business that I didn't get done this time around.  This, of course, is not a problem because (a) I love Halifax (b) I have lots of very cool people to visit there and (c) it's only a four-hour drive and the route is gorgeous.  In the meantime, if you have any venue suggestions or people you think I should meet, please pass the names along.  I just want to get out there and meet lots of new people!

Hey duckie... Annemarie here....! I have myself a black pair of cat ears and a tail....and I put them on when a costume is needed--- I am like you--- I am not in the mood anymore for actual "costume" (I'm hoping the mood will return one day...but who knows)..... I find the kitty cat ears mean I am at least attempting to take part -- to some extent! I think you would look extremely cute in kitty cat ears Hope that helps --- !! Glad you are enjoying yourself these days--- back in the homeland! Annemarie
Hey!?....maybe we aren't into the costumes because it is no longer accompanied by a pillow case of candy (yes, i was one of those kids....by the time halloween rolled around again I had no other choice but to throw out that nasty year old molasses candy...only to fill the pillow case with another years supply)- with the kind of treats lining the shelves today, I would gladly dress up as (just about) anything (especially for a pillowcase of tiny chocolate bars!!!)!!!
Hey Annemarie: That kitty cat idea is purrfect. I could dress up in black pants and long-sleeve back shirt (which I already have)...throw a little make-up on my face and presto...easy costume! Indeed I am enjoying myself back in the homeland. Planning a St. John's trip in late November...can't wait! Hey Karen: Ah yes, the treats have improved over the years, haven't they? Remember how ripped-off we felt when we got an apple or a bag of popcorn? Perhaps the lack of treats IS why I've lost my Halloween mojo... Thanks for posting both of you!
